FAQs

What should I expect from my first treatment?

On our first treatment together we will need to go through a case history and some medical questions. I will also conduct some range of motion testing and orthopaedic tests before the treatment will commence. (Consultations are free), we will then proceed with treatment.

Do you help people in chronic pain?

YES! I specialise in chronic pain and have been trained to treat a multitude of pathologies. Chronic pain often looms for years and helping someone get their life back is the most rewarding job I could ask for.

Do you have to get completely naked?

Depending on what body part you are having worked on depends on how much you need to take off… If you are looking for a full body treatment you will always be able to keep your underwear on. Ladies, a normal bra is better than a sports bra as I am able to unclasp it when you are face down.

Will the massage hurt?

No I work with each client individually and based on their pain scale as everyone is different. Some muscles may be more uncomfortable thank others, but we should never reach over a 7/10 on your pain scale. Be honest with the therapist and tell them when something is too much. Pain may refer/ radiate around the body when certain areas are being massaged however, this is very normal.

What are the benefits of Sports Massage?

Sports massage is proven to release and reduce tension in muscles, improve circulation and encourage the removal of waste products and can help to relax the body. All of this helps promote recovery and reduces the chance of muscle injury.

How often should I get a massage?

Everyone is different and every therapist is different. Depending on your specific needs your therapist will let you know how often they would like to see you. If you are presenting with a specific issue, I would recommend a course of 6 treatments (once a week for the first 3-4 week) before a once a month maintenance treatment. Think about it as an MOT for your body.

WHAT IS SPORTS MASSAGE?

Why choose sports massage.

With sports massage I am able to stimulate the connective tissues, nervous, circulatory, muscular and skeletal systems of the body. The use of different strokes work to manipulate the soft tissue structures in order to aid recovery. Sports massage can be used to target specific sports injuries such as; strains, sprains and general muscle tension. However, sports massage isn’t unique to the sports person, it also has many benefits to individuals suffering from aches and pains due to occupational stress and demands.

Deep tissue massage focuses on the realignment of the deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue, it is especially effective for those suffering with hypertonic muscles, chronic tension and stiffness. This is most likely due to adhesions found within the deeper layers of the tissue (Muscle, ligament and tendons) which, in turn, can decrease circulation causing pain, reducing movement and increasing muscle and tissue inflammation.  Massage works to break down the adhesions and increase mobility, restoring normal movement allowing you to carry out day-to-day tasks pain free.

Please note that the first initial treatment will take a minimum of 1 hour 15 minutes. We must complete a medical history and intake form before treatment can commence. If you are visiting for maintenance treatment then the medical and intake form is not necessary and therapist should be informed of any changes that may occur between treatments.
